Working Towards Acting as an Integrated Spiritual Practice

Picture
To My Fellow Actors,
A spiritually based life leaves nothing out.  Nothing.  Every breath, every moment, every action becomes spirituality in actuality; in action.   The work of artists (like Magi, Shaman, or even Hermes) is to travel between worlds.  Their home is a liminal zone of the bardos, the in-between; bridging  the Infinite Will with Manifest Form via received dreams.

Many artistic traditions have focused on art as a vehicle to awaken to Spiritual Service; from Kayudo archery and Japanese tea ceremony to Ikibana and Indian temple dance.

Actors in the west don't yet have an explicitly sacred context for their craft yet some visionaries have contributed to such a possibility; including Antonin Artaud, Jerzy Grotowski, Joseph Chaikin,  Sanford Meisner, Constantine Stanislavsky, Larry Moss and many others.  I also include magickians, shaman, yogis, poets, visionaries, great soul-doctor therapists, & mystics who reveal the vast capacity of our primary instrument; our unique human form.

This web page and my teaching work aim to contribute to this conversation among actor monks, stage sages, and silver screen rascal saints.

In Gratitude,
James Wagner
